Oil & Vinegar
The core idea behind the range is that the products should make worthy gifts, be surprising, with good price/quality ratios. They form a tasteful basis for our unusual shop concept. There are virtually no comparative concepts (culinary gift shops) nationally or internationally. In 2001, Oil & Vinegar won the Netherlands Annual Retail Award, with the accompanying title Shop of the Year. History and current situation John Blogg and Femke Stevens set up the Oil & Vinegar shops in 1999. John Blogg developed the culinary gift shop concept in 1998 and expanded on the idea with Femke Stevens. Both of them then started and still own their own pilot shops. After more than two enthusiastic years of hard work their new company, Oil & Vinegar, flourished into a franchise chain. top Support and monitoring the concept Generally, the franchise concept appeals to dynamic business people who love food. The training programme for franchisees consisting of theoretical and practical training in an Oil & Vinegar shop, takes around two to three weeks. A step-by-step plan provides support to franchise applicants in all areas. There are also annual internal awards on offer, for example, for the most consistent monitoring of the concept and the best-improved shop of the year. top Oil & Vinegar - UK Operations ![]() Oil & Vinegar's UK operation commenced in August 2002 with the opening of a 90 square meter store on the first floor of the prestigious Buchanan Galleries in Central Glasgow. The UK franchise operations are handled by several regional centres with a Master Franchise in control of what will be up to 30 shops together with a team of shopfitters and property consultants, the roll out has already begun. Stores have opened in high profile Malls in Tunbridge Wells, Solihull and Bristol and are all performing at levels considerably higher than expectation. The concept is now fully validated in the UK and we are now actively seeking bright enthusiastic individuals to join us. top Logistics Logistics is a major strength of the Oil & Vinegar franchise concept. Very internationally orientated, the firm of Van den Berg in Oosterhout handles Oil & Vinegar's warehousing and delivery. Van den Berg imports the products, makes weekly deliveries to the shops and issues the invoices. This procedure is also used in the UK and enables the concept to operate efficiently in the market. top Electronic Point of Sale (EPOS) Right from the outset, it was envisaged that EPOS would be a core element in the franchise package. UK stores operate cash registers through a sophisticated but easy to operate EPOS system which runs day to day activity in the shop as well as provides management information to the franchisee, Holland and the UK Master Franchisees. top The future Oil & Vinegar is constantly looking for ways to expand its market and number of shops, nationally and internationally. There are currently 28 outlets in The Netherlands, three in Belgium and three in the UK with a further 15 in the pipeline. Shops have also opened in Germany and Sweden with Portugal, Spain and Ireland in the pipeline. The Oil & Vinegar concept rests on the international experience and insights. For example, studies have shown that the fine food gift segment is expected to grow dramatically in many countries in the coming years. Oil & Vinegar expects to have 45 outlets in The Netherlands by the end of 2003. The forecast for 2004 is more than 100 shops internationally. In the years that follow, there are plans to reach a level of between 175 and 200 shops. The ultimate aim is to create an international retail brand. top Your Oil and Vinegar Franchise will include:
